All styles are taught including graded units. Theory, composition, technology are also areas covered. So if your thinking about guitar lessons then please send me an email, I’d be delighted to chat things over with you. Lessons are one to one and are paid for in groups of six. Lessons are either thirty or forty five minutes in length depending on what you are learning.

TESTIMONIALS FROM CURRENT & FORMER STUDENTS

Gavin Jack slide guitar Edinburgh

“I’ve been taking guitar lessons with Ged for over a year now and could not be happier with the way he teaches. Ged is a very patient tutor and easy to get along with. He has an immense amount of knowledge about music theory and guitar technique and is also a incredible guitarist which makes every lesson an inspiration. I study Jazz Guitar with Ged which can be a very complicated subject but Ged has made it much easier to understand and has guided me through many complicated concepts with clear explanations. I highly recommend taking guitar lessons with Ged”.

Andrew Steiner

I took guitar lessons with Ged every Saturday for nearly seven years, and they were one of the highlights of my childhood. Ged instilled in me a lifelong passion for music that no other teacher could ignite. His tireless dedication and personalized teaching style helped me hone my skills to play the music I love. Some of my fondest memories – playing sold-out shows in a rock band, teaching music at an American summer camp, and competing in a national guitar competition – are thanks to Ged. His immensely effective and tailored approach to teaching was instrumental in my success.

“When I started receiving guitar lessons from Ged I was able to play quite advanced pieces, however I didn’t understand what elements and techniques made up the songs I was playing. Ged took me back to the basics and helped me build up a solid foundation of scales, theory and techniques that not only allowed me to play my favourite songs more proficiently, but also gave me a toolbox in which I could improvise my own guitar solos, or create my own guitar arrangements. My guitar playing improved exponentially while having lessons with Ged, and I couldn’t recommend him enough!”

“During my time studying music at university and for a short while after, I had the privilege of receiving guitar lessons from Ged Brockie. Reflecting on my progress during that time and the years since, I can confidently credit much of my improvement as a guitarist to Ged’s guidance. He not only helped steer me in the right direction but also worked with me to develop the skills necessary to succeed as a professional musician. The lessons I had with Ged, along with the resources he provided, have been invaluable. I continually strive to replicate the same level of impact in my own teaching, inspired by the effectiveness of Ged’s methods.”

“If you’re looking to start playing guitar, at any age, I couldn’t recommend Ged enough. From from nailing down the basics, to more advanced theory and playing. Ged’s passion for music was inspiring. It encouraged me to keep getting better at guitar and grow my love for playing.”

“Ged was my guitar tutor at Jewel and Esk Valley College. After advancing my guitar playing and music theory, I started private lessons with Ged to continue my learning. I still use the knowledge he gave me today..”

Mark Hunter guitar lessons

“I am an experienced guitarist and have been taking lessons for a year with Ged. I have noticed several things. My knowledge of the fretboard has drastically improved, and I have become much more confident in my improvising skills. Ged emphasized to me the importance of putting the work in to learning fundamentals. The range of possibilities and connections I now have on the guitar is far wider than I ever had, and I am able to put these skills into practice.

As an intermediate player for many years, Ged showed me ways to discipline my practice in order to progress. He has an intimate knowledge of the guitar, as well as a wide range of music from jazz classical rock and blues. This means I am confident he can always help find effective musical solutions to my practical or theoretical questions and issues.”

NAPIER UNIVERSITY EDINBURGH

For the last fifteen years I have been educating guitarists as part of the Napier University’s BA in Popular Music. In addition to teaching guitar at all year levels, I also teach the ensemble module for guitarists and bassists which delivers the skills needed to compose and ultimately record their original compositions.

In previous years I devised and delivered the “Music For Screen” module for year three students. This challenging course taught students how to write to picture as well as giving an historical, technical view of the art of writing underscore and themes to film and media.

The course is an excellent choice for anyone who has their heart set on a career as a musician. The facilities offered at the Merchiston campus are first rate and the campus houses the creative industries as a whole so there are plenty opportunities for meeting people from other disciplines.
